TECNO Mobile’s Camon CX, Cheapest Smartphone You Don’t Know About
In a bid to modernise its brands messaging and experience while making the most of the budget for African markets, Tecno Mobile unveiled its latest Camon flagship at the brand’s maiden continental launch in Nairobi, Kenya at the weekend.
For those in Zimbabwe who may have never heard about TECNO Mobile, the company launched in 2006 with a specific emphasis on Africa, making smartphones, feature phones and tablets. It’s comparable to other Chinese mobile phone brands such as Xiaomi, Huawei and ZTE, producing lower to higher end mobiles to contest with big names, with significantly lower price tags.
TECNO Mobile, part of Transsion Holdings, has over 25 per cent of market share in Sub-Saharan African. Sales in African have reached 25 million devices in 2015, together with 9 million smart phones. Worldwide, TECNO sold 60 million devices last year while the sale of smart phones manufactured by the firm increased by 40 per cent.
The brand is currently active in 12 African countries with a market share of about 20% in each nation, enjoying its greatest success in Nigeria, Kenya, Cameroon, Ghana Zambia and Zimbabwe.

The device comes in four different premium variations Sky Gray, Champagne Gold, Elegant Blue and Rose Gold. The Camon CX is built with a 5.5’’ FHD display screen and a visual slim 2.5D screen design that creates a borderless visual effect. It also comes with a stunning 16MP dual front and rear camera, a 0.1s fingerprint fast-capture for taking pictures and 8 real-time portrait photo filters to make sure that every Selfie is Social Media worthy.
The Camon CX comes with a price tag of just $190, which could buy you a low to mid-range Samsung, mid-range Huawei or ZTE mid-range phone.
