Mobile money services market leader EcoCash, with it partner Mahindra Comviva have received a global award for empowering women in the developing world (Zimbabwe). EcoCash Savings Club was launched in 2015 as a mobile product to support savings groups across Zimbabwe.
Mahindra Comviva is a value-added services provider for mobile operators. Comviva has customers in over 90 countries, predominantly in Asia, Middle East, LATAM, and Africa. It offers messaging, mobile Internet, content, mobile commerce, prepaid and “business support solutions”.
Ecocash Saving Club is an extension of EcoCash Save, and individuals can save on Econet’s mobile wallet that already has more than 1.5 million customers earning interest on all deposit amounts, starting from as small as $1.
The services club is service available to all Zimbabwe savings groups as it works with non-profit organizations to accelerate uptake and ensure robust education to broaden the savings culture in Zimbabwe.
In September 2011, Econet launched EcoCash and to date, $23 billion worth of transactions have been facilitated through EcoCash. And commands 98 percent subscriber market share.
Last year (2017), EcoCash was also recognized as the best mobile payment service in the world at the GLOMO Awards.
