Mobile telecommunications player, NetOne has partnered with POTRAZ (Postal Telecommunications and Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe) to host the Cyber Security Symposium in Bulawayo, today (7th November 2019). The symposium will officially mark the end of National Cyber Security Awareness Month, which ran under the theme “Safe Surfing”.
The month-long awareness program, a brainchild of the Ministry of Information, Communication, Technology and Courier Services ran under several weekly themes, throughout Zimbabwe. The key objectives were to promote online security and safety, cultivate a cyber-security culture amongst internet stakeholders and unlock new opportunities for cybersecurity collaboration and information sharing.
Of particular significance, during the month-long awareness was the approval by Cabinet of the Cyber Crime, Security and Data Protection Bill. The bill will combat cyber-crime and increase cybersecurity whilst complementing the SMART Zimbabwe 2030 initiative. Safeguarding the National Critical Infrastructure, Child Online Safety, Cyber Security in the Workplace and Emerging Technologies were the cornerstone themes of the 2019 awareness month, discussed in public lectures throughout Zimbabwe.
The symposium will comprise of a one day programme, with breakaway sessions to create a roadmap for adoption by all stakeholders. The partnership with POTRAZ marks yet another feat for NetOne, as a development-oriented company with impetus on transforming lives and developing communities throughout Zimbabwe. The year 2019 has seen NetOne on an aggressive trajectory, making strides and receiving accolades such as, the Contact Centre Association of Zimbabwe (CCAZ) Service Excellence Award – Mobile Telecommunications Sector and recognition in the POTRAZ second-quarter report, as the only mobile network to record market share growth.
