The Medical Laboratory & Clinical Scientists Council of Zimbabwe has issued a hard-hitting statement slamming local DNA specialist Tinashe Mugabe, the host of The Closure DNA Show and Jane of Expediate DNA Zimbabwe Tilder Live Show Zim . The Council said that Mugabe and jane are not professionally qualified nor competent to issue DNA test results.
In a statement, Mr Ranganayi Chari, Chairman of the Medical Laboratory and Clinical Scientists Council of Zimbabwe said “The Medical Laboratory and Clinical Scientists Council of Zimbabwe would like to set the record straight that Global DNA Zimbabwe and Expediate DNA Zim are registered with Council as DNA collection sites not testing sites, According to Health Professions Act medical laboratory test is requested for by qualified and registered clinicians and upon successful completion of the testing process, the test results are sent back to the requesting clinicians who are qualified to advise patients and clients in an ethical manner.”
“Professional Code of Conducts of various professionals in Zimbabwe clearly states that divulging either orally or in writing any information concerning patient/client result ought not to be divulged to third parties except where so required by law, said Mr Chari.
He added that Mr Tinashe Mugabe and Jane were not registered as members of the Medical Laboratory and Clinical Scientists Council of Zimbabwe nor sister Health Profession Councils in Zimbabwe.
“Mr Tinashe and Jane are not professionally qualified nor competent to issue those test results. Therefore, the Medical Laboratory and Clinical Scientists Council of Zimbabwe condemns such practice on the poor and marginalized population by Global DNA Zimbabwe and Expediate DNA Zimbabwe. The Medical Laboratory and Clinical Scientists Council of Zimbabwe urges Zimbabwean population not to be coerced into receiving paternity results in such unprofessional manner.”
The Closure Global DNA show has been trending and has become an instant favorite show for several Zimbabwean men, even though women and other rights groups were beginning to raise red flags over the show.
A legal professional who spoke to Techunzipped on condition of anonymity said that this is a storm in a teacup for Mugabe, as the statement from the authorities does not stop him from continuing with his show.
At the time of publishing, Global DNA Zimbabwe and Expedite DNA Zimbabwe were yet to comment on the statement from the authorities.
